Inuitive and SK Telecom collaborate to introduce advanced AR/VR for mobile services
Memorandum of understanding signed to combine the best elements of two technologies
27th July 2016 – Seoul, South Korea: Inuitive, a developer of advanced 3D computer vision and image processors, and SK Telecom, the largest mobile carrier in South Korea and a worldwide leader in 5G technologies and service development, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This will cover the development and commercialization of an augmented reality/virtual reality (AR/VR) use case and proof-of-concept in mobile environments. Users will benefit from highly advanced AR/VR services based on the combined cutting edge technologies that the two companies bring, through the signature of this agreement.
NU3000 is a 3D imaging processor that may be used in a broad range of image, computer vision and general-purpose processing. The ‘Inuitive Chip’ makes it possible to enhance mobile devices with sensors that respond like human. These include audio and voice, finger gestures or scene tracking for user interaction. This technology is at the heart of ‘Veronica’, Inuitive’s reference design for AR and VR. Designed for production volumes, Veronica can run customers’ applications on the chip and features the widest field of view (120 degrees) along with the fastest frame rate (120 fps) available.
The NU3000 is also available for Google Project Tango smartphones on Twiggy (M3.2T), a small size, and low power consumption reference design optimized for the smartphone environment.
SK Telecom has been developing spatial awareness and tracking technology, standard ARML-based (Augmented Reality Markup Language) content management, and 3D graphic optimization for AR since 2012. Based on those developments, SK Telecom has created ‘T-real’, a software platform for AR and VR services. The platform consists of an AR/VR browser – equipped with an image recognition/tracking and content rendering engine – and a server that manages AR/VR contents and services. ‘T-real’ allows users to create, test and execute AR and VR services for smartphones and HMDs (Head-Mounted Displays).
Moreover, SK Telecom is making constant efforts to vitalize the ecosystem. The company is providing developers with API and SDK of ‘T-real’, and sharing its latest technologies through regular forums. SK Telecom is also working actively with diverse companies across the globe to achieve further innovations. In particular, it has worked with Google to jointly develop an AR platform called ‘T-AR for Project Tango.’
By converging/combining Inuitive’s NU3000 and SK Telecom’s AR platform and 3D sensors, the two companies will be able to enhance efficiency in terms of executing gesture, object and space recognition features on a mobile device, and deliver a new level of customer experience through more realistic AR and VR content.
“Twiggy and Veronica’s unique architectures offer the most advanced platform for AR and VR and we are enthusiastic that an industry leader like SK Telecom has chosen Inuitive, and our technology, as their preferred partner to enhance the possibilities offered to mobile devices users,” said Shlomo Gadot, CEO and Founder of Inuitive.
SK Telecom CTO, Alex Jinsung Choi, said, “We are expecting user experience innovation in 5G generation, which enables realistic user experience of media in the AR and VR world. Through the collaboration with Inuitive we aim to provide new services based on high-level realistic multimedia techniques.”
Inuitive is an Israeli company founded in March 2012; NU3000 is Inuitive’s flagship product, aimed mostly at mobile applications. Since it was first introduced to the market, NU3000 has gained growing momentum as the leading solution for depth sensing and processing in mobile platforms. NU3000 is already in mass production.

Inuitive announces NU3000 based reference design for Project Tango
Inuitive, a developer of cutting edge 3D computer vision and image processing devices, today announced a reference design dedicated for Google’s Project Tango.
Google recently released a Project Tango Tablet Development Kit, in the form of a seven-inch tablet. This platform is mostly aimed at developers, to allow developing applications for Tango systems.
“We are excited to be part of the Project Tango ecosystem. Our unique technology and architecture serve the Project Tango concept is many aspects: starting from real time depth generation, going all the way to efficiently executing mapping, localization, navigation and demanding signal processing algorithms.” said Shlomo Gadot, CEO and Co-Founder of Inuitive. “This collaboration with Google allows Inuitive to pursue the mobile market from a unique position, as Tango enabling technology providers. We will help realize Tango concept into a consumer market technology”.
NU3000 is a multi-core processor, optimized for depth sensing, 3D image processing and computer vision in mobile environments. It can interface and manage 3 cameras: 2 as a stereo depth source, and 1 as an RGB sensor. Moreover, it can process all 3 video streams in real time, to generate a high quality depth image from the stereo, assign color to the depth images, and execute high-level processing on all available video streams. NU3000 architecture is combining dedicated hardware accelerators with vector DSPs to allow a power efficient execution of depth sensing as well as higher-level algorithms and applications. NU3000 can manage, synchronize, time stamp various sensors. Moreover, it can execute real-time Simultaneous Localization and Mapping algorithms. Accordingly, In a Project Tango environment, NU3000 can serves as the core depth generating engine, together with a smart sensor hub and serve as the primary processor of the mapping and localization algorithms.
Founded in March 2012, Inuitive is an Israeli company focused on providing cutting edge processing engines for depth sensing and processing. NU3000 is Inuitive’s flagship product, aimed mostly as mobile applications. Since it was first introduced to the market, NU3000 is gaining growing momentum as the leading solution for depth sensing and processing in mobile platforms.
