Inuitive’s proprietary NU3000: a multi-core Co-Processor ASIC optimized for fast and accurate image capturing and computer vision algorithm processing – the most advanced of its kind.

Based on years of collective experience, Inuitive has succeeded in developing a high precision 3D Depth Engine based on its proprietary “Assisted Stereoscopy” technology. This 3D technology is accurate enough to support fine objects tracking capability as well as heightened performance in extreme lighting conditions – from dim indoor lights to intense outdoor daylight.

Inuitive has developed several Reference Design solutions to address different use cases. Our proprietary “Assisted Stereoscopy” combined with the powerful NU3000 ASIC are flexible to meet various use-case constraints.

Inuitive 3D “Assisted Stereoscopy” technology offers the following benefits over other 3D technologies

– Operation in a “Passive Mode” relying on natural light, an “Active Mode” using IR illumination or in a combination of both. Passive Stereo Mode is the most power efficient making it most suitable for mobile devices.

– The Stereo Design is flexible, meaning we can modify the Electro Optical front-end to suit customers’ specific requirements such as Optical BL Dimensions, FOV, Accuracy, etc. Modules can be used for “World Facing” applications (like room scanning) or “User Facing” (like Face Recognition use case). All variants are based on the NU3000 and the Inuitive 3D Firmware, both remain unchanged.

– Our 3D Imaging & CV solutions, based on a dedicated NU3000 Multi-Core processor, “off-load” intensive computations from the host CPU enabling best CV performance.

3D Scanning
Inuitive accurate 3D camera modules can capture objects’ exact dimensions to be duplicated by a 3D printer. Integrating Inuitive 3D camera into a smartphone makes it ideal companion to 3D printer.

Augmented Reality (AR)
Inuitive offers “World Facing” modules as well as “User Facing” 3D cameras that may be integrated into tablets or smartphones to support a variety of Augmented Reality applications.

Gesture Recognition
Our technology is able to accurately identify movements of the human body and communicates the data for various types of applications.

Face Detection and Recognition
Our Face Detection and Face Recognition technology can effectively identify the user’s face out of a large data base. The exceptional accuracy of recognition is, in large part, thanks to combining 2D and our 3D Depth Engine.

Head Orientation & Eyes Gaze Tracking
Our own Eyes Gaze Tracking algorithm can pinpoint user’s gazing with high precision.

Expression Recognition

Solutions

In today’s highly technological world, depth sensor technology has matured enough to be embedded into mobile devices therefore offering a variety of use cases and applications. However, the challenge lies in finding the most cost-effective, power-efficient and compact solution for mobile devices.

At Inuitive, we have taken depth sensing technology to the next level by designing and producing a dedicated 3D Imaging & CV NU3000 ASIC multi-core processor that is powerful enough to ensure excellent user-experience by combining all known CV applications performing simultaneously without impacting concurrent tasks that run on the main processor.

Having developed this full solution in-house, our open architecture allows our customers to embed their own software and algorithms as well as integrate additional application layers that will be executed on our co-processor, isolated from the main processor’s timing constraints.

NU3000

A MULTI-CORE 3D IMAGING & CV PROCESSOR
The NU3000 ASIC is the heart of Inuitive’s Reference Design modules and optimized for a variety of use cases. The NU3000 Multi-Core 3D Imaging & CV Co-Processor ASIC includes 3 DSP cores:

  • Inuitive’s “Hardware Accelerators” – proprietary hardware accelerators to acquire the stereo image of the camera pair and to process depth from the disparity map.
  • Two CEVA® MM3101® vector digital signal processors. Users may use CEVA processing capabilities to implement a part (or their whole) CV application software.
  • ARM® Cortex® A5 plus ARM® Neon® Vector Processor – processing power for third party imaging software execution.

M3 reference design

NU3000 ENABLED

A SHORT RANGE 3D COMPACT CAMERA MODULE FOR PERSONAL DEVICES
M3 is a complete “short range” reference design module for various 3D Imaging & CV applications. It contains all electro-optical components, including the Inuitive NU3000 CV optimized processor, power management as well as all other electronics.

The module contains the following elements:

  • NU3000 Multi-Core 3D Imaging & CV Co-Processor ASIC
  • DDR
  • A stereoscopic pair of Compact Camera Modules (RGB + IR)
  • Additional RGB CCM as a standard Web-Cam
  • Microphone
  • ILM100 – A compact IR illumination module
  • All other electronic parts including on-board PMU

The module operates on a single 3.3V power source and communicates to the host processor via USB 3.0 interface (USB 2.0 backwards compatible).  This compact module size (90x10x4 mm) is designed to fit Notebooks and Tablets. Smaller footprint upon request.

M3 is based on the NU3000 ASIC and Inuitive proprietary architecture that off-loads the host processor from computational intensive CV, in turn reducing delay and enhancing system performance.

M3.1L

NU3000 Enabled

A LONG RANGE DEPTH CAMERA MODULE FOR LIVING ROOM SMART TV AND OTHER APPLICATIONS

The M3.1L is the perfect solution for high quality long-range depth sensing suitable for living room Smart TV applications.

Based on the NU3000 ASIC, the M3.1L off-loads the host processor from computational intensive CV processing, in turn reducing response time and maximizing system performance. Using the M3.1L with its NU3000 processor allows a cost effective architecture where the host CPU may be a mid-range lower cost processor, because the CV intensive algorithms are executed on the NU3000 efficiently and cost effectively.

The M3.1L operates in Active Mode. It has an IR Illuminator and two IR monochrome sensors are set up in a stereo alignment. The information from these sensors is used to generate depth mapping information (20cm baseline).

The module contains the IR Illuminator, the stereo pair of sensors, drivers, DDR and all other electronic parts as well as an on-board PMU (Power Management Unit).

M3.1M

A HIGH QUALITY LOW POWER DEPTH SENSING SOLUTION FOR MOBILE DEVICES

The M3.1M is a lab prototype depth sensor. This high quality depth sensor, optimized for operating between 0.5m-3m offers a low cost low power depth sensing solution.

This innovative solution can serve as the core technology for emerging applications such as augmented reality (AR), 3D scanning and online shopping.

M3.1M is a lab prototype. Its successor is M3.2 – a small scale depth sensor to be embedded into mobile devices. M3.2 shall be launched in Q3 2015. M3.1M is an interim lab prototype, to allow early adopter to evaluate the qualities of the future M3.2
